About Kimberly Burgan, CPDT-KA

Kimberly and Aussies Kimberly completes a double loose-leash walk for these two happy Aussies! Outdoor Adventures at its finest!
Good Sit Kimberly enjoys spending time with her own dog - and her original inspiration - Bailey Burgan
Training a Deaf Dog Kimberly featured here training a deaf dog to respond to the slight sensation of a vibration collar in order to retain his already brilliant off-leash privileges.

Named Outstanding Dog Trainer of the Year by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers in 2007, the nationís most prestigious pet dog training organization, Kimberly Burgan, CPDT-KA remains dedicated to a teaching philosophy based on two-sided communication, kindness and understanding. She coaches dogs and their owners through positive and rewards-based techniques, together, to reach their individual training goals.

Her strong foundation and understanding of canine behavior lends to success in all of her training efforts, and for that she thanks her mentors, local legend, the late Lee Mannix and world-renowned canine behavior expert, John Rogerson. She is certified by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers and Accredited by John Rogersonís Northern Centre for Canine Behaviour. Kimberly was also honorably awarded a Fellowship with the Pet Behavior Institute of England and serves as an Official Evaluator for the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Program. With the encouraging hand of Mr. Mannix and the support of her amazing clients, Kimberly created Kimberly Burgan Dog Training in late 2009.

With over 10 years of experience in the dog training and behavior industry, Kimberly is well known for a gentle style and approach (with dogs and humans) that packs results! Her reputation and history of proven results earned her a contract with the State of Texas, where she consults for the Texas Youth Commission's PAWS (Pairing Achievement With Service) Program at a juvenile detention center in Brownwood, TX. The pet-dog family setting, however, is where Kimberly thrives! As a tireless advocate for proactive education and a better understanding of the canine, a family's success is very near and dear to her heart. She is the author of "Poppy & Puppy are Friends: A Child's First Introduction to Responsible Dog Ownership", which is set for release 2012. Kimberly also serves as an official guest blogger for PetSafe, a well-recognized, nationwide, pet supply retailer.

Kimberly grew up in San Diego, California, and dogs (among many other pets) were always a large and important part of her life. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, she found herself at home in Austinís dog friendly environment. Today, as a pet professional, her sole purpose in dog training is to educate owners on how to better communicate with their dogs in order to build stronger relationships within the home and ultimately, to keep more dogs out of shelters.

Outside of KBDT, Kimberly enjoys writing, time with her own dog(s) and takes great pride in being ďjust a mommyĒ!
